SPECIAL EVENT REPORT

TUESDAY 20th SEPTEMBER 2022

Why a special event
As the u3a in the UK was set up exactly 40 years ago, branches all over the country celebrated in various ways during the last full week in September. Our special 'Open Day' was our celebration. We were keen to spread the word and show off what we had to offer local people who may be retired, perhaps recently widowed, bored, new to the area, short of company or generally at a loose end. We are very welcoming and believe that joining u3a is a great way to make friends.

What happened on the day
All our groups made displays and were really enthusiastic. Some of the contributions were interactive and there were quizzes to try. In the Anteroom our Ukulele group played from 11.30 followed by the Steel Pans at 12.30. This small group, mostly new to the steel pans but very keen, played at other times too when there was a lull. It all went down very well - so well that the Town Clerk invited both groups to play as part of the town's official Christmas Celebrations. With free refreshments in the Town Hall Ballroom all day, including home-made cakes from our members, what was not to like!

If you missed it, just turn up at one of our regular monthly meetings. If you like us you can join on the spot and save the Visitor's fee. Annual membership is only £16 pa.
