Summer Outing 2019 - Gloucester and Cirencester

On a pleasant Summer's morning in August, sixty U3A members set off on our annual Summer Outing - this time to Gloucester and Cirencester.

After spending time in Gloucester enjoying attractions such as the 11th century cathedral (where Henry III was crowned and King Edward II was buried) and the historic docks, we joined our tour boat (the Queen Boadicea II) which was one of the 'Little Ships’ of Dunkirk. This 'little ship' took us on a 45 minute trip along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal - once the broadest and deepest in the world.

After the boat trip we headed for our guided tour of the National Waterways Museum (which is housed within a renovated Grade II listed grain warehouse) and afterwards headed for Cirencester (often referred to as the Capital of the Cotswolds and the second largest town in Britain during Roman times) before heading home.

A long but, I hope, enjoyable day for everyone on the trip. The weather stayed dry for us until we were homeward bound.
