ICE -- In Case of Emergency
There are several precautions we can take so that people can help us if we have a funny spell or even an accident.
Membership Card
We should each make sure that the space on the back of our Membership Card for brief details of their next-of-kin (phone number and name) is filled in.
Also we need to make sure that we keep this card on us at our Talks Meetings or on our Outings, and that it would be easy for anyone looking after us to find and use it should anything unexpected happen.
Why we collect information
Members are under no obligation to share private/medical information. We suggest that some information is shared with group leaders, for example where someone usually keeps essential medication eg Epipen (in case of allergy) or their inhaler, and perhaps a contact in case a member is unwell and unable to make their own way home. This information will be stored securely by the group leader and destroyed when the member leaves the group. This information will not be shared with anyone outside the group.
The membership form could include the question ‘is there anything else you think we should know in order to help you if there is a problem?
If there is an incident the members should act as they would normally if there is a health or other emergency.
