Solent

Who are we?

We are affiliated to the Third Age Trust, the national representative body for all the local u3as in the UK, of which there are over 800 at the moment.

u3as are self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operatives for older people no longer in full time work, providing opportunities for their members to share learning experiences over a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning -- not for qualifications, but simply for fun.

The Solent u3a was established in 1987, is a charity in its own right (Registered Charity No. 1028438), and is run entirely by volunteers. Although we are currently centred on Fareham, we still like to keep our title of Solent u3a as we were the only u3a in this area when we started.

We offer our members the chance to take part in many widely different subjects and activities, including languages, music, local history, crafts, photography and walking. Our approach to learning is that it is for pleasure: there is no accreditation or validation, and there are no assessments or qualifications to be gained.
