In October 2022 we celebrated our tenth anniversary with a 'Magical Hog Roast' held at the premises of the Selsey Football Club. Our u3a is steadily growing into a thriving organisation with many members, and we look forward to welcoming more in the coming year.
Although the Covid pandemic and subsequent lockdowns meant that we were unable hold our usual meetings, we are gradually seeing a return to normality. In September 2021 we held a Welcome Back! party for members, and at our first Open Meeting the following month we enjoyed a presentation of 'Owls About Town', which was literally hands-on for some members!
There was more celebration in April, when 42 members marked the King's Coronation, due to be held just one week later, with a 'party' held immediately after the AGM.
Our usual membership year's activities include monthly Open Meetings held at the Selsey Centre, and a variety of Special Interest Groups that meet on a regular basis, some in a member's home, some in an appropriate venue, and some outdoors.
Every Open Meeting begins with a welcoming cup of tea or coffee with biscuits, and this is then followed with a short briefing about our latest groups, upcoming news and events, often including displays of our activities. The Guest Speaker is introduced and gives a talk for about 45mins to 1 hour, and the afternoon concludes with the answers to the monthly quiz, followed by the drawing of the Raffle.
The Events Manager organises the guest speakers for our monthly meetings, ensuring their subjects cover a wide variety of topics. In addition to this she is also kept very busy organising social events and outings to places of interest.
All events provide an excellent opportunity for our members to meet, socialise, learn a new topic and laugh together.
