North Lindsey

Welcome

Welcome to North Lindsey U3A

For those retired but not tired of life! Join us on a journey of enjoyment, friendship and discovery.

If any of the following apply to you, then the U3A may be for you:

Are you retired or semi-retired?
Do you want to meet other people with similar interests to your own?
Do you want to follow up on one of your interests?
Are you looking for a new interest or hobby?
Are you lonely and in need of friendship?

We welcome anyone who is keen to join with us to promote wellbeing, learning and friendship among the retired and semi-retired community.

The U3A stands for 'The University of the Third Age' - the first age being childhood, the second age is caring or employment and the third - retirement. We never stop learning! That is the basic ethos of the U3A but with the emphasis on fun, friendship, sociability and enjoyment! The motto of the U3A is, Learn, Laugh, Live and that ethos is shared by all the members.

The current subscription for membership is £16 and is due on the 1st of April each year. This subscription also entitles members to a copy of the 'Third Age Matters', the National U3A's magazine which is published five times a year and is posted directly to members' homes.

North Lindsey U3A publishes a newsletter by email to all members every month. This contains details of all the coming month's events, groups meetings, U3A and members' news and anything that the membership wishes to share with others. We can have poetry, puzzles, quizzes, ideas for walks - whatever might take members' interest.

North Lindsey started life in 2001 with just 6 founder members. The first meeting was at Lindum Street Community Centre in Scunthorpe and then moved to the Ferryboat Inn in Winteringham. North Lindsey U3A has had several homes since then and has finally settled in Scawby Village Hall, Scawby. The membership has grown and is now a flourishing and friendly community.

Scawby Village Hall is a very congenial building with a choice of rooms to suit whatever meeting North Lindsey U3A wish to hold. Although set in a village, it is central to the membership who travel from a wide range of locations. These range from Barton to Belton, Scotter to Scunthorpe, Alkborough to Barrow, Manton to Winteringham and Kirton to Winterton plus many more. It is easy to find, being on the main street of Scawby, has a decent car park and is a vibrant hub of village life.
