North Lindsey U3A meets every third Wednesday of the month at Scawby Village Hall, 17 West Street, Scawby, DN20 9AT.

The meeting usually starts at 10.00am with tea/coffee and biscuits served before and then we welcome a guest speaker at 10.30am. Guests are welcome to come along and try North Lindsey U3A and meet the members for the first time before deciding to join. Entry for all is £2.

Wed May 15th Simon Thomson - The archaeology of Roman Lincolnshire. Simon will be looking at Lincoln, the Roman army, road network, trade and industry and the villa economy: art, colour and interior decor.
Wed Jun 19th Debbi Davidson - An overview of the hedgehog including the life cycle and how we can adapt our gardens to help their survival.
Wed Jul 17th Sandra Bright - Sandra is giving an account of taking part in the ‘Big Allotment Challenge’ as finalist including her love of growing flowers and the supply of dry flowers to various outlets and associations.
Wed Aug 21st Alan Stennett - Alan worked for the BBC for nearly 60 years including 40 years with Radio Lincolnshire where he was a founder member of staff. For 20 plus years he had written for newspapers, edited an on-line farming news service, written 10 books and worked on over 70 videos/DVDs, all of which feature in the talk.
Wed Sep 18th Steve Lovell - Steve will tell us about perennials to be grown from January to December. Choose with care and one will be in bloom for every month of the year.
Wed Oct 16th Marilyn Roberts - Once again, it is lovely to welcome back Marilyn with her interesting and informative historical talks. This talk is about some of the history of Gainsborough Old Hall including: Why did Henry VIII hate Lincolnshire so much, that of his shires he called it ‘one of the most brute and beastly of the whole realm’ and why were three of his wives associated with Gainsborough Old Hall?
Wed Nov 20th Ruth Andrews - The history through the centuries of the pantomime dame and how it developed.
Wed Dec 18th Danny Wells - This illustrated talk looks at the influence of the Victorians on Christmas as we know it today. Many of these changes took place early in Queen Victoria’s reign. We will explore why and how the Victorians re-energised and transformed the festive season.

PICK UP POINTS AND TIMES:-

MORRISONS SCUNTHORPE. At 09.00 hrs
DFS BRIGG At 09.15 hrs

If getting on the coach at DFS it is OK to park in their car park as long as the parking is at the bottom end away from the entrance.

Drop off will be near the Harbour, pickup will be at 16.00 hrs where you are dropped off.

COST:- will be £14.50 per person, cash only please, which will be collected at the U3A meetings by the trip treasurer David Holmes and Pam Murphy, trip organizer. Unfortunately, this money is non-refundable if anyone cancels, although another person could take your place but you would have to arrange that and let me know.

U3A Members may take family or a friend with them but non-members will not be insured by the U3A.

The day is yours but here are some suggestions you may like to do:-

Take a stroll around the Harbour, maybe take a boat trip to Flambrough, have a fish and chips lunch, shopping, walk along the promenade, sit on the beach (English weather permitting) and have an ice cream, or take the land train to Sewerby Hall at a small charge - 2023 prices were £3.60 return. There is something for everyone
