Using Zoom for Meetings

A Guide to Downloading Zoom and Accessing Meetings

Zoom is a great tool to use during this pandemic because it enable us to have more social contact with each other and at the same time continue enjoying and pursuing our interests and activities. I would encourage all members who do not have zoom to download it and have a go. See the Guide below;

Downloading the App

  • Go to the app store on your chosen device (one that will allow you to access your emails), look for Zoom and install it. Open the app and complete the Registration form with your name, email address and a Password. Remember to keep a note of your Password for future reference.

Accessing a Zoom Meeting
The person calling the meeting (called the ‘Host’) will send you an email with the date, time and a link to the meeting.

  • Open the email at precisely the time stated on the day of the meeting; click the Zoom Meeting Link (the one with a lot of letters, symbols and numbers). This will automatically open your Zoom app.
  • A message on the page will say ‘Join a meeting with video’ Click on it and it will put into ‘The Waiting Room’
  • The message in the Waiting Room will say ‘Your Host will let you in soon’ The Host will see you and admit you to the meeting.
  • Once in you will see the Host, your speaker should be switched on. If not look at the tool bar either at the top or bottom of the screen and click on the speaker icon to unmute it. Then look for an icon that says ‘Gallery View’, click it and you will be able to see and speak to everyone in the meeting!
  • Enjoy! When the meeting finishes click on the symbol ‘Leave the Meeting’.
  • It’s as simple as that!
