Lyndhurst & District

Days out 2018

We started 2018 with lunch at Prezzo’s in Lyndhurst after our monthly meeting – a delayed Christmas event. A good time was had by all.
We continue to have theatre and concert trips.
On 12th April a small group went to see Lucy Worsley talk about Jane Austen at the Regent Centre in Christchurch. This was very interesting and an insight into the writer’s life.

On 11th May a few of us went to Hangar Farm Arts Centre, Totton for a musical evening – A Brief History of English Music; a fascinating journey of music from medieval times to 1930s. This was presented by two young and very talented people who talked about and played the old style instruments and sang some of the songs from the time. They will be doing another evening just before Christmas so watch this space.

In May, 13 of us went on the first Lyndhurst and District holiday. We gathered at Southampton Airport and flew off to Ireland. We joined others for a coach tour of Cork, Killarney and the Ring of Kerry – the highlight of the holiday. The weather that day was perfect and the scenery wonderful. Plans are afoot for our group holiday in 2019.

In June a small group visited Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight - the weather just right – no rain and not hot - great for site-seeing. The house was fascinating and the grounds beautiful. The day ended with a sit by the sea enjoying ice cream and tea.

We have had two trips to Lymington Community Centre to see Live Screenings; An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde. A wonderful production starring Edward and Freddie Fox playing father and son this made for many chuckles at some of the dialogue. Others in the play were Nathaniel Parker and Susan Hampshire. Swan Lake - the ballet was stunning, dancing, scenery and music all made for a wonderful evening.

The first half of 2018 ended with a Narrow Boat trip from Bradford on Avon. The popularity of last year’s trip meant we needed to hire two narrow boats. A bit of logistical juggling for car sharing but two boats, 24 people, a few experienced ‘boat-people’ and a warm, sunny, rain-free day made the trip wonderful.
