Weston super Mare Visit 2016

As ever we had a break by the sea in January. Not a mad idea. We have had
good weather on each of the previous eight years and have never had to
abandon a walk.

This time we enjoyed the lovely wide open sands of Weston Super Mare, with
views across to Wales and even the occasional sight of the sea as it came
hurtling back across the sand! We took some lovely walks both by the sea and
inland, led expertly by Mike Starkey, to whom much thanks.

Unfortunately, on one day one of the group suffered a broken ankle on a
particularly steep and muddy stretch of the Mendip Way. Her daughter looked
after her splendidly and with the help of a kind passer- by and a member of the
group following with a car she was rescued and dealt with at the local hospital.
She has recovered well and is now driving again and able to exercise her dog.
We have in fact welcomed her back walking again with us. Well done Kath.
This was in fact the first emergency we have had in the fifteen plus years I have
been leading the day walks.

I should like to say a huge thank you to all the walkers who lead walks. Without
their input the walks would not happen and they take us to all sorts of lovely
places. They offer their help willingly and I have almost nothing to do.
Here’s to next year! Bournemouth.
