Administrative Issues

It was agreed at the first meeting of the Science Group that we would operate as follows:

  • Meeting dates to be in principle on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10.00 am – but the date for the next meeting to be confirmed at the preceding meeting.
  • A contribution of 50p per meeting would be made by all attendees to the convenor to cover coffee, tea, biscuits etc.
  • Meetings would take place at 1 Little Bathurst Cottages, Cowbeech Road, Rushlake Green, TN21 9QA unless otherwise advised.
  • It was noted that members of the Group were covered by insurance via the U3A Trust – this only applies to paid up members – I should refuse entry to anyone who is not paid up so I trust you all are!

Three formats of meetings have been adopted:

  • Discussions on preselected topics. It was agreed that a member of the group would introduce the topic with a short talk to briefly introduce issues relating to the topic and, possibly, posit an opinion. Debate would follow during and after!
  • Arrange speakers on particular subjects of interest. Members of the group were asked to suggest subjects and speakers.
  • Arrange trips to sites and open lectures on subjects of interest.
