Groups

Coventry u3a has over 30 activity groups covering many subjects. To belong to any of these groups you must be a member of Coventry u3a.

In this section you will find an indication of the interest groups currently available. All the groups are self-help and set up their own programmes and all members are encouraged to contribute, depending on their experience and capabilities, to the group's activities.

Meetings are held at a suitable meeting hall or sometimes in members' homes on a nominated day each month. Some groups hold social events that involve such activities as gallery visits, luncheons, visits to historical buildings, national trust properties & gardens.

How do I join a group? To help potential members decide it is suggested that you contact the Group Leader (where details are shown) or contact our Group Co-ordinator or by emailing a request via the form on the Contact Page. It is also suggested that you then come along to a general meeting. Here you will be able meet other members of the Group and/or the Group Leader and obtain more information.

How are the groups and leisure activities run? Group Leaders are members who give their time voluntarily. Most groups are conducted during the day. The majority of meeting venues are accessible by public transport. Day trips and social functions are also arranged. Where a charge is made for group attendance it is kept to a minimum and normally just covers direct overheads.

What kind of groups are possible? It all depends on the interests of members. Almost anything is possible with good will and enthusiasm.

How to become a Group Leader? A description of your proposed interest group needs to be discussed with the Group Co-ordinator or someone on the committee, who will welcome you with open arms. Expression of interest within the u3a will be sought and if there is sufficient interest then a suitable date/time for the group will be arranged. If you feel that you can contribute in this way, please discuss it with us. You may be able to tackle something which you have not previously tried, and no one ever knows what they can do till they try. Maybe you have some experience or you have a special subject or interest which you can share, we know that there are people waiting, eager to learn. There is also a lot of help available to you not only within Coventry u3a but also by way of resources from the u3a National Office such as CDs, DVDs etc.
