Benfleet

202403 - Bermondsey

WALKING OVER 5 MILES: Thursday 28 March 2024; Walk to Bermondsey

Only ten members were free for the walk so we met at Benfleet station to travel to Limehouse where we stopped at the Yurt Cafe for refreshments.

From there we walked to Canary Wharf in rain and 50 mph winds to catch the Uber ferry across to Rotherhithe. The plan was to follow the Thames Path to our lunch stop at the Angel pub in Bermondsey but for part of the route we kept to the road instead as it was less windy and a bit more sheltered.

The publican offered to take our coats and umbrellas to dry them off by the log fire and we went upstairs for our lunch. The view from there overlooks the Thames with Tower Bridge about a mile away. By the time we left most of the coats were dry again and we continued on to Tower Bridge and the train at Fenchurch street. The last part of the walk still drizzled and the wind had subsided slightly.

Despite the weather it turned out to be a fun day.

Best Wishes, Peter
