Wildlife Walks by Public Transport

To explore and enjoy the wonderful countryside and wildlife of Yorkshire, according to the seasons and members’ particular interests, including birds, butterflies and dragonflies, mammals, flowers, trees and fungi.

Details of meeting place and transport (bus or train) will be provided in each Newsletter. All participants need to be able to walk 4-5 miles in the countryside and will require walking boots. However, walks may be shorter than this as the aim is to study the wildlife rather than to achieve a specific target distance. Please bring a packed lunch to eat en-route, but we will also try to finish the walk at a suitable point for refreshment before returning to York.

Accessibility

The dates for walks during the remainder of 2019 have now been fixed, as below. Please note that there may well be further bus or rail timetable changes before these events so please check start times with me before joining a walk. We would be happy to welcome a few more walkers to explore the wonderful wildlife that can be found within an easy day trip, by bus or train, from York. Please wear suitable footwear and invite any of your U3A friends along too. Please bring a packed lunch to
eat en route, but we will also try to finish the walk at a suitable point for refreshment before returning to York. Indeed many nature reserves now include a visitor centre with refreshment facilities, which can also provide warmth and shelter when needed.
