W- Enjoying the Odes of Horace
Lockdown - the group is continuing using Zoom.
The Odes of the Roman poet Quintus Horatius Flaccus, otherwise known as Horace, were composed in Latin in the early years of the first Roman Emperor. They are a wonderful, timeless source of homely wisdom and human emotion, treasured in literary traditions throughout the world. We aim to enjoy his poems in the wider context.
A little knowledge of Latin would be helpful but not essential as we use the excellent translation by James Michie which prints the Latin side-by-side with his English translation.
