Reading Group 1
I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book!
― Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
Is this how you feel about reading? Do you love getting immersed in a good book but then long to talk it over with someone? Perhaps you need a bit of persuasion to try something different, a biography instead of your usual romance or a historical novel instead of a contemporary thriller. Perhaps it is a reading group you need!
We are a small group of enthusiastic readers. During the past year we have read books by Anita Shreve and Sue Townsend, Stella Gibbons and Evelyn Waugh among others and we have an interesting and challenging program of reading for the next twelve months.
Our meetings are hosted in member’s homes, and confess that the biscuit crumbs do sometimes get between the pages as we discuss literature, life and the world in general!
“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.”
― Anna Quinden, How Reading Changed My Life
