Science Group meets @ 1.45pm every 3rd Monday in a member’s home.
‘Living on Earth may be expensive, but it includes an annual free trip round the Sun.’
The above is the sort of thing you can encounter in the books tackled by this group – along with many more serious points, of course!
Brian Cox, Jim Al-Khalili, Richard Dawkins, James Lovelock, Simon Singh, Oliver Sacks . . . . . these are just a few of the authors whose works we have read and discussed or reported on to each other. We don’t just read, either. We watch documentaries and have the occasional outing to a lecture or museum. In the last couple of years we have also done some online courses, following our individual interests: Geology, Weather, History of Science, Health and Fitness, Ageing, Technology – anything that can come under the umbrella of science. And it’s a big umbrella. Art, Cookery, Gardening and Roman medical practices have been amongst the topics looked at too.
Our group is small, friendly and lively, and none of us has much scientific background, if any; we’re just people who like to explore the world around us and enjoy tea and chat along the way.
