The Jewellery Making Group is the combination of the Wednesday and Thursday Groups. Both groups know each other well and when necessary their days are interchangeable.
A few times a year we visit Bead Fairs as far away as Harrogate to the North and Nantwich to the South and all places in-between. These events are very exciting and they are bead wonderland to us. Ladies are warned only to take as much cash as they wish to spend, the temptations to buy are endless. Jewellery making is addictive and the love of all things beads soon takes over. It becomes the norm to be looking at what necklace Teresa May is wearing today and is it something we should be making.
In the summer we have a day out. One of the dealers we know from the fairs has a lovely bead shop in Alsager, near to Crewe. Three car loads of us set off full of excitement and are very well looked after on our arrival with cakes, biscuits and drinks.
We have three hours of chats, demonstrations and shopping. We then go to a restaurant for lunch. It is a very happy day and everyone comes home with new projects and patterns and beads, enough to keep them busy for many a day.
About four times a year we have a Jewellery Sale at the General Meeting. Although it is a good feeling when someone buys our work, we do like to get feedback from the U3A members. I always say please come and talk to us and tell us what you think. It is so helpful.
All the ladies start off from knowing nothing and they progress to making some very difficult items. They make some amazing pieces and I am very proud of all of them.
