Local History Discussion will take place over four consecutive weeks on Tuesday mornings (10-12) in the main meeting room, St John’s Library, Worcester on 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th August. The aim is to share knowledge and stimulate discussion around four local historical topics, which have been chosen because they are potentially of interest to many local historians. There is plenty of information available both on the Web and in The Hive, and the topics include places within Worcestershire that you can easily visit.
You will be expected to do some research on one the four topics below, but you will not be alone, just required to know enough to help facilitate an interesting discussion. There are facilities for giving a PowerPoint presentation at the library and/or showing photographs if you wish to make use of these. and you can choose whether you work with the others or on your own, when presenting the topic. The rest of the group will also be expected to ask questions or make relevant comments, leading to what I hope will be an interesting and thought-provoking interactive discussion.
The four discussion topics are:-
|6th||Bevere and Diglis – Worcester’s two Islands in the Severn|
|13th||The ‘Great Houses and families of Worcestershire and Warwickshire connected with the Gunpowder Plot (Coughton Court, Huddington Court, Hindlip Hall, Grafton Manor, Hewell Grange, Harvington Hall, Hagley Hall, Holbeach House)|
|20th||Assembly Rooms, theatres and cinemas in Worcester 1750 -1960|
|27th||Worcester Lychgate and Newport Street finds and stories|
