Economics Discussion Group
At Dines Green Centre, postcode WR2 5QS on every other Monday at 1400hr.
Leader and Contact: George Hudson
The Group is a collegiate of people who are interested in, and want to examine and understand topical and current economics issues. This not about the teaching of economic theory but all members are encouraged to take part in collective discussion and to make their own individual informed contributions. So, the group is suitable for anyone who has a broad interest in economic issues and is willing to prepare a presentation to the group.
Typically, individual sessions are divided int two parts. Part 1. A presentation on a specific issue.
Part 2. Open discussion on recent economics issues. Some might be further taken up in individual presentations. A projector and screen are available for any member's presentation.
Past examples of topics discussed are: Citizens Wage. Bitcoins, Interest Rates, Quantative Easing, Derivatives, Pensions, Trade Wars and the World trade Organisation. The implications of Brexit, of course, have provided issues for discussion and will no doubt do so in the future.
What ever the session a member can introduce a current issue that you have found interesting and would like to group to comment on it.
The first session of 2021-2022 was on Monday September 20th.All future sessions will by ZOOM and members will be invited to join and participate every other week. The first virtual meeting will be October 4th. a presentation on Inflation, and on October 18th The Economics of the Gas Industry. Open discussion wil be on whatever members deem current and important issues.
