Worcester

Walks - Long 2

Our walks start and finish at various locations on Fridays throughout the year.

Long Walks 2 (4.5 to 7 miles) all walks leave at 10.00am

Leaders and Contacts: Shan South (Long Walks 2) and the deputy is Bev Webber

Please see Dates for your Diary below for the current Walking Programme.

Our Friday meetings usually start at a pub. By arriving early we are usually able to use their facilities and pre order/book our lunch/snack if required with the publican. Around the halfway point on a walk we stop for a short "banana break".

Walks are usually planned and led by the group members ensuring a wide variety of locations. Help in planning walks is always available and new walk leaders are encouraged. Click below for the following useful guides:

The group combines with the short walks group and and long walks group 1 to hold an Annual Meeting in January each year. A nominal subscription of £1 pa is collected at the meeting to help pay for maps, paper, ink etc.

If you would like to join the Long Walks 2 Group, first join the U3A, then email your U3A number and details to Shan South. U3A policy is that dogs are not allowed on U3A walks.

We also organise an annual walking holiday, which is open to all group members and is based in one of the hotels operated by HF Holidays. There are a selection of walks organised by group members available each day providing a choice of terrain and distance. Hotel bookings are full board and walks are organised by group members. Worcester U3A Walking Group is affiliated to HF Holidays and enjoys exclusive benefits and discounts. Walkers make their own way there and numbers are usually such that we have exclusive use of the hotel. Holidays are popular and usually fill up at the Annual Meeting. The next Walking holiday which is in April 2022 will be in the Lake District.

Area: Chipping Campden Circular
Distance: 5 miles
Stiles:None
Meeting Point: The Car Park, Chipping Campden
Start Time: 10am
Post Code/Grid Ref: Landranger 150 (Worcester &the Malverns); Exporer 0L45 (The Cotswolds)
Description: This walk starts in Chipping Campden with its many mellowed stone houses, 17th Century Market Hall and 15th Century Church. With its curving high street, Chipping Campden is acclaimed as one of the finest in the country, with buildings from all ages from 14th century onwards, but mostly a reflection of the town’s prosperity in the “golden age” of the Cotswold wool trade in the later Middle Ages and on into the 16th and 17th centuries.
From Chipping Campden the walk proceeds uphill along the first section of the Cotswold Way and onto the escarpment at the magnificent vantage point of Dover’s Hill overlooking the Vale of Evesham. The walk then descends with splendid views in front before regaining the escarpment via a steep woodland track, finally dropping back into Chipping Campden. The walk leaves plenty of time to explore one of the finest of Cotswold towns.

Difficulty: Despite the modest length of this walk there are two fairly energetic climbs. However these are worth it for the views.
