Reciprocal Arrangements with Local U3As

We have a reciprocal arrangement with other U3A groups. This means you can attend ONE of our groups (providing there is space) if you are a member of a neighbouring U3A. Please contact the group leader and provide details of your home U3A, your number in that U3A and an email address.

Many people have told us that they miss U3A during the summer months. It has been decided that some of the funds from the Elizabeth Coxon legacy should be used to run a pilot summer programme of activities.
Accordingly, we are inviting all members (not just current group leaders) to come forward with proposals for short term groups that they would like to lead. Groups can run for just one session or for several sessions.

We shall welcome your suggestions. Our thoughts have included sharing a new skill, taster sessions, practice sessions, discussions, IT sessions, quizzes, talks and visits. But please just try us with your idea.
So, do let me know what you can share with your fellow members. It will give you a chance to try out an idea without any long term commitment.

Working through online courses together
Julie Magee is interested in starting a group based on (free) Futurelearn courses in the area of biology and medicine. Forthcoming courses include a selection of courses on the causes of human diseases that breaks down into
1. Understanding the causes of disease 28/1
2. Transmitting and fighting disease 11/2
3. Cancer and genetic disease 25/2
4. Cardiovascular disease 11/3
5. Nutrition and environment 25/3
The dates are when each course commences. The time commitment is 4 hours a week, each course lasting 2 weeks. Others that Julie thought would be interesting are on forensic science but they haven't released start dates for those yet.
There are courses on 'How the body uses DNA as a blueprint', Genomics and whole genome sequencing (again no start dates for those yet).
If there is interest maybe people could agree on courses and Julie would go from there. 'I thought that we could do the set reading/ whatever is entailed in the course then meet to thrash out anything we don't understand and discuss the issues raised.’ please contact Julie Magee

Annual Groups Fair

Our Annual Groups Fair was held at Worcester Sixth Form College on Saturday 8th September. About seventy six groups were represented, including several new groups: Art Dicussion, Ballroom Dancing, Bridge Gentle Duplicate, Line Dancing Beginners, Family History, Beginners Spanish, Spanish Conversation, Mindfulness and Meditation and German Beginners. As always, the Ukulele Group entertained us, accompanied by some singing and foot tapping from an appreciative audience. Representatives from the University of Worcester were also present to provide information on their Seniors Programme. The morning was very successful, with a considerable number of new people joining, and tipping our total membership into four figures.
