Cycling - Short
#Meet At Cafe Viaduct, Grandstand Road, WR1 3EJ on Monday at 10.00am
Leader and Contact: Denis Compton
Due to the impact of Coronavirus, the planned Cycling (Short) programme has been suspended since March. However since June 1st, it has been possible to cycle in groups of up to 6 riders and on July 6th we had our first ride under the 'new normal' The programme will continue in this form till regulations change. If you are an existing group member and you are happy to join one of these small groups for a ride, please let me know. The events section below will give more details (eventually)
Normally, the group meets fortnightly, throughout the year.
We usually cycle for about 2 hours, achieving 16 to 20 miles and the aim is to have an enjoyable and sociable ride with either an optional pub lunch at the end of it or a cafe break in the middle of it. Most of our rides take place on designated cycle paths, canal towpaths and 'C' roads - we try to avoid ‘A’ roads, busy ‘B’ roads and wet or icy weather.
If you are an occasional cyclist, you should be able to cope. You can test yourself by trying out the 10 mile Worcester 'Pedway' route. If you can complete this ride in about an hour and a quarter, then you are capable of keeping up with the group. Our first ride of the season will be just 15 miles
With regard to equipment, any bike with gears will do. We also accept e-bikes. As you can see from photos on this page, a hi-vis jacket is useful for most of the year and we all wear helmets. It is also worth getting a spare inner tube for your bike since it's often the quickest way to deal with a puncture.
We meet at Cafe Viaduct in Grandstand Road at 10.00 a.m.
