Cycling - Short
Meet At Cafe Severn, Grandstand Road, WR1 3EJ on Monday at 1030hr
Leader and Contact: Denis Compton
The Cycling (Short) group meets fortnightly, throughout the year.
We usually cycle for 1.5 - 2 hours, achieving 12 to 18 miles and the aim is to have an enjoyable and sociable ride with either an optional pub lunch at the end of it or a cafe break in the middle of it. Most of our rides take place on designated cycle paths, canal towpaths and 'C' roads - we try to avoid ‘A’ roads, busy ‘B’ roads and bad weather.
If you are an occasional cyclist, you should be able to cope. You can test yourself by trying out the 9 mile Worcester 'Circular' route. If you can complete this ride in about an hour and a quarter, then you are capable of keeping up with the group. Our first ride of the season will be just 15 miles
With regard to equipment, any bike with gears will do. We also accept electrically assisted bikes. As you can see from photos on this page, a hi-vis jacket is useful for most of the year and we all wear helmets. It is also worth getting a spare inner tube for your bike since it's often the quickest way to deal with a puncture.
We usually meet at Cafe Severn on The Quay (alongside Croft Road car park) at 10.30 a.m. though we will have a few alternative start points - details will appear in the events section, below
The date of the next scheduled ride is (see Events below)
