Return to Action 2021

As first steps to re-starting the Seniors’ Sports and Physical Activities programme after lock down, and in conjunction with Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, Walk and Talk and Walking Tennis are now available.

Walk and Talk takes place from 10.00 hrs each Monday at Cripplegate Bowls Club, Cripplegate Park, Worcester and provides a great opportunity to do some walking and meet up with friends old and new, whilst enjoying some fresh air, and maybe even some sunshine. There is no pressure to walk any set distance or pace, you do whatever suits you.

Walking Tennis takes place weekly, weather permitting, on Wednesdays from 14.30 hrs at Worcester Lawn Tennis Club. No prior tennis experience is required and racquets can be borrowed.

Both sessions will take place outdoors and adhere to all Covid-19 guidelines in place at the time.

COMING UP

University Charity Challenge 2021

In 2018, the first University of Worcester Charity Challenge took place, providing a great opportunity for teams to compete in a series of physical events, whilst raising funds for a good cause. Amongst the teams taking part in 2018 was one made up of participants from the Seniors Sports and Physical Activities Programme. It is hoped to run a similar event this year, should the easing of lockdown restrictions allow, with activities taking place over 24 hours from 19.00 hrs on Friday 4 June to 19.00 hrs on Saturday the 5th.

24 volunteers are needed for a mixed Active Ageing Team to take part and the events planned for this year are:

Night Walk (20 miles)
Sparred Canoes (19 miles)
Run (19 miles)
Basketball Match (20 minutes)
Water Activity Course

The team will be divided into smaller groups to take part in each activity and university staff will work individually with each team member to offer activity screening, as well as group training activities. This will ensure everybody feels comfortable and well prepared to compete in whichever of the events they may choose.

Keeping Fit During the Pandemic

To help seniors keep fit during the current pandemic the University has developed a number of short videos of home exercises, ranging in difficulty and length. Additional videos will be added as they become available.

University staff have also developed a new exercise scheme called 6IN6 comprising 6 exercises at Basic and Advanced levels to be completed 6 times a week, and 6 strength exercises (6IN6 Strength) to be completed twice a week.
