University of Worcester Seniors Prog.

Now in its fourth successful year the 2019 University of Worcester Seniors Games will take place from Tuesday 7 to Thursday 9 May. As in previous years the Games will include badminton, short mat bowls and walking basketball, cricket, football and netball. Also, for the first time this year, there will be a day of outdoor activities based at the University’s Lakeside Campus at Top Barn near Hallow on 9 May, when teams of 6 will compete in a variety of events such as archery, walking orienteering, sparred canoeing and team initiative events, followed by a barbecue with music provided by the U3A’s very own Ukestars.

All ability levels are welcome and contestants can take part in as many activities as they wish for an entry fee of £5.

Further details and application forms are available from Tom Howard or Odette Fielding. Closing date for applications is Monday 29 April.

Power Walking

Spring is here and the weather should be improving so why not combine keeping fit with getting some fresh air by POWER WALKING each Wednesday morning. Sessions last an hour starting at 9.30 am from the McClelland Centre in the University’s City Campus, usually moving on to Pitchcroft, Gheluvelt Park or the Diglis Basin. Activities include strength building exercises as well as power walking at a pace to suit individual participants, all under professional supervision and direction. Cancellations and Timetable Changes
Occasionally the University may need to vary the time, day and location of sessions due to teaching and assessment requirements, university vacations and the availability of staff or accommodation. Where details of changes are known in advance they will be shown here. Changes will normally be announced during sessions but if in doubt you should email the contacts for each activity as shown above. Just click on the name shown.

Men's Keep Fit (Friday)
Due to the demand for places the university operates a book-ahead system for the weekly Men’s Keep Fit at the University Arena on Fridays at 10.00 am and 11.00 am. Participants must book their place and pay the normal £3 charge per session in advance. Bookings can be made at the University Arena reception desk. Booked places may be cancelled at any time during the week but anyone booking a place who then fails to attend on the booked day and time without cancelling will lose their fee. Members of the University’s Fitness Centre must show their membership card when booking a place and will be charged £3 for failure to attend a booked session.

In addition to its Seniors' Programme the University offers a number of other activities open to all-comers, including seniors. For more information email wellbeing@worc.ac.uk or telephone 01905 542001.
