At King George V Centre, postcode WR4 9TL on Mon at 1400hr.
Leader and Contact: Ray Aspden
The new season starts at 2 pm on Monday 16 September 2019, and fortnightly thereafter, at our old haunt of the KGV Pavilion, Brickfields Road, where there’s ample off-road parking. The formula remains the same: lavish PowerPoint presentations, with optional audience participation, about the people and places of Antiquity, either side of a tea & biscuit(s) break.
This Autumn I want to start by looking at the secular history of the Bible Lands, to try and sort out what’s verified by excavations and contemporary texts and what “Ain’t necessarily so!” The planned sessions so far will cover Joseph and the Hyksos, Akhenaten and Labayu, the Philistines and the Sea Peoples, Shishak and Saul, Ahab and Hazel of Damascus, Jehu and Jezabel, Hezikiah and the Assyrians and Josiah and the Babylonians.
The focus will be on history not theology, although it’s almost impossible to separate the two in this part of the Ancient World.
Numbers are limited to a cosy 24, because of fire regulations, so please only sign up if you expect to stay. We meet second and fourth Tuesdays, September to April (except for Christmas Week!) 2-4 pm. I hope to see you there.
