Leader and Contact: Ray Aspden
The Ancient World Group meets for 2 hours, fortnightly on a Monday afternoon, 2-4 pm, at the King George V Playing Fields Pavilion, off Brickfields Road, where there is ample off-road parking and kitchen facilities for a mid-session break.
We enjoy PowerPoint presentations of surviving antiquities which rely heavily on the Group Leader’s Holiday photographs, concentrating on Europe and the Near East in the time before Alexander the Great and Central America before Columbus.
The emphasis is on culture, myth and history, rather than archaeological techniques.
This year we’re focusing on the Mediterranean, starting at Sardinia in the west and moving east, via Sicily, Malta, Crete and Cyprus; as well as the coastal regions of Italy, Tunisia, Greece and Turkey.
We meet in the committee room, which is endowed with screen and ceiling projector. The venue is limited by fire regulations to 24, which is a comfortable number for questions, discussions and banter.
For further information and/or to book a place, please contact Ray Aspden.
