Local History 2 meets fortnightly in Room 3, (ground floor) at St. John’s Library WR2 5AX on alternate Wednesdays, at 1400hr to 1600hr
Our programme always includes a visit to a place of historic interest, a guided history walk, and a social event, as well as a variety of presentations by local history group members. Over the years we’ve visited a wide range of places of historical interest including, Witley Court, Tudor House, the Cathedral Library and the Royal Porcelain Works with a visit to the Beauchamp Community and a guided walk round Worcester planned for this coming year.
Members are actively encouraged to do their own research and feed this back to the group via presentations, and for those who do not feel confident enough to give a full presentation, we have included time in our programme for members to give 10-15 minute talks about any local history topic that interests them. Our first meeting of the year is on Wednesday 13th September 2023.
In addition to visits and history walks our 2023/4 programme includes talks on:-
Old St Johns, The History of Barbourne, The Civil War Battles at Upton, Diglis Basin and Diglis Island, The Malvern Hills, The History of Witley Court, Lady Emily Foley and her home at Stoke Edith, Anthrax in Worcestershire, The Fertiliser Factory of Henry Webb and Bell Founding in Worcestershire. Kicking off the new year we have social afternoon and new year quiz . with lots more interesting talks to follow in 2024.
Our venue is on the No. 30 bus route or any bus coming through the Bull Ring. Public transport is recommended, if possible, as parking at the library extremely limited (please check with the library before parking in their small car park) However, there is some street parking available further along the Bromyard Road and use of a private car park for members when attending a meeting.
