Walks 10 Miles+
At a variety of different locations across 3 counties.
Leader and Contact: Shan South
This is a group who enjoy doing longer walks once or twice a month, weather permitting.
Long +/- Walks can be just under 10 miles (8 or 9) or a bit more than 10 miles (11 or 12)
Our walks start and finish at various locations on Tuesdays (occasionally Wednesdays) throughout the year. The aim is to do 2 walks per month but in the fine weather, during Spring and Summer there may be a walk offered every week.
Most walks will start at 10.00am depending on the length and location. In the summer months if the weather is forecast to be hot, we may start earlier i.e. 9am. Because some of our walks are at a distance in neighbouring counties, we aim to car share as far as possible to save on fuel and carbon emissions etc.
Our meetings sometimes start at a pub but this very much depends on the location of the walk. If so, we can enjoy a drink/snack together at the pub after the walk.
We usually have a couple of breaks on the walk; a coffee/"banana” break and a lunch break. If it is a longer walk, we stop again later in the walk for a further short break. Its important that everyone brings something to eat for lunch and other snacks as well as enough liquid refreshment for the walk.
Walks are usually planned and led by the group members ensuring a wide variety of locations across the 3 counties. Help in planning walks is always available and new walk leaders are encouraged. Click below for the following useful guides:

The group combines with the short walks group and long walks group 1 & 2 to hold an Annual Meeting in January each year. A nominal subscription of £1 pa is collected at the meeting to help pay for maps, paper, ink etc. if appropriate.
If you would like to join the Long Walks 10+/- Group, first join the U3A, then email your U3A number and details to Shan South. U3A policy is that dogs are not allowed on U3A walks.
We also organise an annual walking holiday, which is open to all group members and is based in one of the hotels operated by HF Holidays. There is a selection of walks organised by group members available each day providing a choice of terrain and distance. Hotel bookings are full board and walks are organised by group members. Worcester U3A Walking Group is affiliated to HF Holidays and enjoys exclusive benefits and discounts. Walkers make their own way there and numbers are usually such that we have exclusive use of the hotel. Holidays are popular and usually fill up at the Annual Meeting. The next walking holiday which is in September 2024 will be in the South Downs.
