Woodspring

Welcome To Woodspring U3A

Woodspring U3A was founded in 1993 with few members and has since flourished to the present Woodspring website time where we have more than 450 members.

Based in the two North Somerset valleys of the Yeo and Gordano, we cover many little towns and villages such as Backwell, Clapton, Clevedon, Congresbury, Failand, Kenn, Nailsea, Portishead, Tickenham, Walton, Weston-in-Gordano ,Wraxall and Yatton.

Woodspring U3A offers a programme of educational and leisure activities for unwaged people over 50, where members contribute their own experience, interests and enthusiasms actively to learn from each other, and it provides an opportunity to do things you have never tried before. You don’t need any qualifications to join any of the groups; all you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to participate. There are no qualifications on offer from the U3A. The U3A is about learning for fun, the sheer pleasure of stretching your mind and it is a good way of making new friends.

We are part of the National and International U3A Trusts. In the United Kingdom there are over 1000 branches of the U3A, with a membership of over 380,000. Each U3A branch is a democratic, self-funded, self-managed organisation.

General meetings for all members are held at Nailsea Methodist church, Silver Street, Nailsea, BS48 2DS on the fourth Tuesday of each month from January to November, at 2.15pm. You are welcome to come to our general meetings as a visitor, with a view to joining our U3A.

The annual subscription for Woodspring U3A is £11.00. ( Subscriptions run from April to March.) This includes a portion for the national U3A, and you will receive the national newsletter regularly.

Subscriptions may be paid by bank transfer or by cheque. Cheque should be made payable to "Woodspring U3A" and sent by post to the Registrar, Valerie Noble, 33 Cannons Gate, Clevedon, BS21 5HL.

Existing members will receive their membership renewal form in March along with the notice of the AGM.

To join a group you must be a member of a U3A, priority being given to Woodspring U3A members. You should contact the relevant group leader to see if there is space available in the group, and to obtain details of meetings.
