If you are retired from full time employment and want to stretch your mind, extend your social life and have fun, Wonersh U3A may be just what you are looking for.
Wonersh U3A is one of the smaller but vibrant groups in Surrey with around 300 members. We are part of the University of the Third Age, a movement that began in France but which is now widespread over many countries. As part of the Third Age Trust we are able to access information and resources to help in planning programs.
Wonersh U3A was first established in 1984 as AIMS (Activities and Interests of Mature Students) following an initiative from the Education Department of the University of Surrey. Ten years later we became affiliated to the U3A which by then had become a nationwide organisation. Although listed as Wonersh U3A we welcome members from Blackheath, Bramley, Chilworth, Shalford, Shamley Green and all other surrounding areas.
Meetings are held at various local venues in and around Wonersh, Bramley, Shalford and Shamley Green, all of which can accommodate a wide range of activities. In addition to these meetings there are social events and also a visits program which includes trips to theatres, exhibitions, galleries, National Trust properties and other places of interest for which all members are eligible.
Wonersh U3A in common with all U3A groups is essentially a self-help organisation and members are encouraged to use their previous experience to lead a group or perhaps teach a subject.
Our current annual subscription is £14 per person. The year starts 01 January annually. New members may join at any time during the year. There is no attendance charge at meetings. Visitors are welcome but are asked to pay £2 per meeting. Some activities such as Pilates and Tai Chi require a termly fee payable in advance for the provision of qualified instructors.
