Brush up your Shakespeare

Coordinator: Ben Whitney

We've now finished our 2019 play, 'The Tempest'. We will meet again monthly from JANUARY TO JULY 2020 to study 'MEASURE FOR MEASURE', usually on the second Tuesday in the month, in the morning 10.15 - 12.00. Venue will be my house in Newbridge (on the No.1 bus route).

This is one of Shakespeare's darker 'comedies' with its very contemporary themes of corruption, moral dilemmas, the abuse of power and the exploitative use of sex - very 'Me Too'! We will first discuss the Introduction in the chosen version of the text, then read through it line by line and discuss the language, plot etc. as we go along and watch one or two productions on DVD. (Some of us have already seen the recent RSC production at the Lighthouse but we will watch it again later and perhaps an older version for comparison).

CHECK BACK IN THE AUTUMN FOR MORE DETAILS OF DATES AND THE CHOSEN VERSION OF THE TEXT YOU WILL NEED TO OBTAIN. It will help to read the Introduction before the first meeting. You don't have to have been to previous meetings to be very welcome.
