Our primary objective is an enjoyable social occasion through the medium of recreational table tennis. The spin offs from this activity are numerous. We improve our flexibility and balance, improve our hand eye coordination, and even gently exercise our cardio-vascular systems! We are now into our third year following 2 very successful and enjoyable years. We welcome members from Tiptree U3A in this venture.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month (except for bank holidays), from 1.30pm to 4.30pm in Rivenhall Village Hall. Players of all abilities are welcome, however long it is since they last played. We play the new format to 11 points per game, which ensures ample time for recovery and social interaction. We still use bats rather than racquets (which the guide books now refer to). We have 3 tables in play allowing doubles (not so much running about) and singles games to be available.
We provide everything that is needed – tables, bats, balls and most importantly tea, coffee, biscuits and cake, together with a warm welcome. You will though need your own appropriate footwear.
We make a contribution of £3 per session to cover the cost of the hall (currently £33 per session); the purchase of bats and balls; and the provision of refreshments. In 2014 we were able to reduce the session fee to £2 in July in order to prevent the build up of funds.
We are very grateful to the “Rivenhall Playing Fields Association” from whom we hire their extremely well appointed hall. They also allow us to store our tables there. See their website at http://www.rivenhallvillagehall.co.uk
