Cycling for fun
Our next ride is on Tuesday 7th May 2024 on the Chesterfield Canal to Rother Valley starting at Tapton Locke Visitor Centre near the Premier Inn at 10am.
When one thinks of cycling groups you may have a vision of a bunched group of cyclists trying to keep pace with the cars along the road or ready to accelerate away from traffic lights.
Our group could not be more different! We do not do roads, we do not do speed nor, thank goodness, fancy gear. Oh, I nearly forgot, we do not do hills either. We simply do old fashioned cycling along cycle trails to enjoy the superb views of the Derbyshire countryside. Some have electric bikes, others have push bikes, it makes no difference. If someone has a puncture or their chain falls off, there is always plenty of help at hand.
We have a varied programme of rides from March through to December, although this may be curtailed during the winter months due to weather conditions (we certainly do not cycle with temperatures below 5 degrees). The rides are half-days - it is surprising how far you can cycle at a very modest speed in a few hours. If someone has had enough and wants to return someone else will always accompany them - we have a rule that no one cycles on their own.
