Ideas for Future Events

Presentations for Wirksworth U3A

We have had well received presentations so far, on working in Non-Governmental Organisations in areas hit by disaster, from Hannah Reed, an experienced, locally based Aid worker; Christmas themed singing by the Community Choir; and an illustrated talk on Leawood Pumphouse.

Presentations take place monthly at the General Meeting.

Future topics for presentations will be taken from the list below, and dates and speakers will be added to the website and advertised as they are confirmed.

Background planning

The Steering Group thought that these events should be interesting, entertaining, informative, locally based, and outward looking.
Formats suggested have been, speakers, entertainments, sharing our own experiences, short films like TED talks, and discussions.
A list of possible presentations was drawn up in November, and people voted on the topic of most interest to them, giving clear indications of what would be appreciated.
They are listed below, in order of votes cast, although many were of equal interest.

The Buildings of Wirksworth
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, on a specific subject, such as the return of otters
Leawood Pumphouse and the local soughs
Aquabox, it’s boxes and where they go
The Fair Trade shop, and the impact of its sales
The Geology of the Area
Local farming
How Derbyshire is helping refugees
Local writers reading their work
The Transition Group
Northern Lights cinema
Sharing our own experiences
Entertainment

There have since been other suggestions of interest, including the Ecclesbourne Railway, and the Community Garden, if you have more ideas please send information, including contact details, to the webmaster, via the Contact page.

Thank you
