Volunteering

This page is where you can find opportunities for volunteering and other activities with local organisations.

In light of the current restrictions due to COVID-19, any activities and opportunities need to be checked with the organiser.

Send your requests for items to be included on this page to the Secretary (see the Contact page).

Gardeners wanted

The tenants of Ashgrove Court in Newton Stewart are looking for help with their gardens. They would like to create a wild flower garden and have some areas that are more friendly to insects, the environment etc. The landlord just does the basics and the tenants aren't physically fit enough to tackle any other projects. If you are interested please contact the webmaster.

Your u3a needs you

We have several important vacancies arising on the committee, including Business Secretary and Groups Co-ordinator. Please give serious consideration to joining our committee, there's no need to wait until the next AGM in February 2024. You are very welcome to come to committee meetings (2nd Thursday of the month) as an observer or ask to shadow the current holder to see what is involved.

If you don't think you can spare the time to come on to the committee, maybe you could help with specific projects. Maybe you have talents that could support us in other ways, for example IT experience, writing skills, administration - you'll be surprised at what you can contribute to the team.

You won't be on your own. The committee is a friendly and supportive unit that works together to keep things rolling along.

Heart Start trainers

Could you help to save a life? With a little training you could show others how to do just that. Members who have attended any of the training courses will know how vital (and how straightforward) it is. There are only six trainers in D&G at the moment and more are needed to help teach members of the public, schoolchildren and local GPs these essential techniques. No experience or specialist background is needed, and expenses are reimbursed.

See Around Britain

See Around Britain, a registered charity, has set up a website, www.seearoundbritain.com with the intention to provide photographic and detailed written information regarding a large variety of public venues throughout the UK. The information provided gives a brief description, along with contact details, transport information and accessibility information so that potential visitors, including those with disabilities, can decide whether or not a venue is suitable for their particular needs.

The charity is looking for volunteers to write venue descriptions to accompany the backlog of photographs of various venues and/or submit photos or videos of new venues themselves, all of which can be done from home and online via their website. There are online video tutorials available to help volunteers, but additional support can be provided via email if needed.

If you feel this would be of interest to you, See Around Britain would be really grateful to hear from you.
Please contact them with any queries about volunteering, or register your interest and join directly via the See Around Britain website.
