Welcome to Wigan u3a
Who Are We and What Do We Do?
The u3a is a UK-wide organisation, which aims to encourage people to continue their social and creative interests into later years, and to do this in a friendly and informal way. Run by members, for members, u3a groups have sometimes been described as 'youth clubs for older people'.
While the wider u3a has been around for many years, our Wigan u3a group is a relatively new, and quickly growing, branch of this. At this local level we:
- hold twice-monthly drop-in Meetings for new and existing members
- offer a range of Social Events and Outings throughout the year
- run a variety of regular Interest/Activity Groups relating to particular pastimes or interests.
To find out more - use the tabs across the top of this website to explore; see what's planned, when and where this takes place, and how to contact us to get involved. Key sections which are regularly updated are: -
Groups | for latest information on the different activities offered and how these are scheduled |
Events | a list of upcoming one-off dates, destinations, itineraries, topics, etc. |
Calendar | for link to a diary view of everything planned for the upcoming month |
News | for a link to read or download our occasional newsletters and see other recent news items |
Alternately come along to the monthly Members Meeting, (third Wednesday of month) where you can meet our group leaders and our existing members to simply chat about whatever has raised your interest. A ‘try before you buy’ approach means that you can check us out before committing to anything.
