Christmas 2019

The social committee organised two very successful Christmas meal events this year.

Christmas Lunch
"30 hardy souls braved arctic weather conditions to meet for Christmas lunch at the DW Stadium. We were treated to roasted pepper and tomato soup which definitely warmed us through! This was followed by turkey with all the trimmings. The dessert was after dinner mint cheesecake with cappuccino cream which seemed very popular.
Following dessert there was the raffle, several of our party won prizes including 4 tickets to a gala evening of choice later in the year. After the raffle we were treated to entertainment from JoJo who sang lots of songs that we could dance too. The dance floor was that busy that people were dancing around the edges of the room.
All in all a good time was had by all- I hope those who attended the evening party had as good a time." Sue Wilcock

Christmas Evening
"I thought, when I retired from work, that ‘Christmas Dos’ would be a thing of a past – how wrong can you be! I’m up to four and counting, but the best so far has been the one organised by Sheila and her Social Committee last Friday at the DW Stadium.
Apart from several of us turning up at the wrong entrance – the only ‘old person’ gaff of the night – everything else conspired to make it a really good event. I don’t know who had tipped off the DW staff that the U3A are made up of more mature members, but they’d positioned our four tables right next to the speakers – just in case any of us had difficulty hearing the music!
Christmas mass catering isn’t known for its Michelin starred creations when it comes to the food, but this was hot, tasty and I saw plenty of cleaned plates so that speaks for itself.
The Mowtown singers were really on form and I can definitely say that our U3A contingent put the youngsters to shame on the dancefloor – they’ve no staying power these young’uns! A special mention must go to Angela whose dancing style whisked us all back to heady nights at Wigan Casino.
All in all, a ‘reet good’ night was enjoyed by all. If you missed it this year, I heartily recommend getting your tickets early for next year’s event. A huge thank you to Sheila and the Committee for their efforts and here’s to the next one." Chairman Alan Lang
