|Jane Waldram||Books 2||Thursday afternoon monthly|
The meeting in May was hosted by Vivienne at The Swan. Our book for May was "Gustav Sonata" by Rose Tremain. This proved to be a popular book and was enjoyed by most of the group. We found that the war time scenes in Switzerland were not as we would have imagined. Although not a participant in the war, there were times when Switzerland felt the impact of the events in surrounding countries especially, as shown in this book, the problem with refugees. All members found this book straight forward and easy to read, with believable characters. Gustav in particular was a character that appealed to all. The theme of love in its many forms was well described. An easy to read book with a storyline that progressed well.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday June 14 at 3.00pm at The Swan and will be hosted by Jan. The book we have been reading is "Thin Air" by Michelle Paver.
Looking ahead, the July meeting will be on Thursday July 12th at 3.00pm at the Swan and Ann R. will be our host. The July book is "Mothering Sunday" by Graham Swift. We need to think about a book for August and all suggestions are welcome. Please let Jan know if you are unable to attend, I know that some of you will be on holiday. (After "Thin Air", I cannot think that any of you will be climbing mountains!)
Best wishes, Jane
