Mahjong
Mahjong is a new group formed at the end of 2019.
It now meets twice a month, on the 1st Wednesday and the 3rd Monday, in Uphall Community Education Centre from 2-4 p.m.
Mahjong (there are alternative spellings such as Mah Jong, Mah Jongg) is a game for 4 players. It has similarities to many card games in that the winner is the person who is first to collect a hand of sets. Instead of cards, however, there are tiles. Instead of suits like diamond or clubs, there are "circles", "characters" and "bamboos" as well as "winds" and "dragons". Part of the fun is learning the traditional Chinese names for the sets.
We have the complete range of experience from fairly regular players to absolute beginners but we all help each other.
