Ukulele

Our enthusiastic Ukulele interest group was started in January 2019. Each of us was totally new to playing the Uke and we encourage each other to be the best we can be or want to be. Our aim is to play and sing songs that we like and we are uplifted by that magical experience that music gives. We were absolute beginners and we encourage any member to have no fear of joining us. We meet every two weeks on Wednesdays from 10:30 till 12:00 in Farndon Memorial Hall.
So come and see what a fun instrument the Ukulele can be.
Check the EVENTS page for our meeting dates.

1 Dec. Today we had our beginners class. five people from WCR plus one that could not attend, together with three from Tarporley. We covered all the basics including Strumming and first chords. Then to everyone's surprise, we finished off with the group playing Achy Breaky Heart. WOW. Tarporley will now go and start their own group whilst the WCR members will continue with our group. It makes such a difference being part of a group.
22 Oct. There have been several requests from beginners to help them get started So we will run a Beginners session on Weds 1st December 10:30 Please contact Ken Wakefield in advance on the number below.
13 Oct. Today we introduced the folk song The Ash Grove. Who would have known there were so many variations of words, and course the ones that Ken chose to issue were not the most popular. Must try harder Ken :-) All part of the fun.
29th Sept. What a great surprise for us today, Kim's daughter Sarah joined us at practise with her Cello. As a 'real' musician she just improvised and jammed along with us as we played. The sound was really good and it added a different layer to our performance.
15th Sept. Another new song today. For those with not enough time we now have Eight Days a Week !!. Another very enjoyable session.
1st Sept. Full turn out of all our 12 members today. We played 14 songs and had a really good session. Three members brought banjoleles and we played Five Foot two, eyes of blue....has anybody seen my girl. A very lively dixieland song.
18th August 2021. Another lively session today. We played and sang 13 songs which was great and even had another new member join us. It's a really good group we have and we would love you to join us.
4th August 2021. The group met in Farndon this week. It was lovely to see Isabel back in person for the first time since March 2020! We have a new song to practise - Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence". Des also brought along his Kazoo to play in some of the instrumental parts of a song, and a tambourine. Jaffa cakes were on offer too, so we are definitely getting back to something like normal. We also had a potential new u3a member - Jude - who came along to see what we can do.
