The Group meets on the first Thursday of each month, at 10.30am in St Alban's Church Community Room, Tattenhall. We are a small group with an interest in all types of music. We meet informally for a couple of hours, listening to musical extracts that we each bring along, usually based around an agreed theme. It is also a chance to chat about our own musical experiences. New members are always welcome.
Our group spent a very pleasant time listening to the music of composers, or their music, beginning with the letters 'L', 'M' and 'N'. We enjoyed Leroy Anderson's "The Typewriter" which made us smile with the memories it evoked; Bette Midler's "Miss Otis Regrets"; Gerry Mulligan's "Grand Tour"; Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"; a couple of Mozart pieces; Richard Strauss's "Morgen"; Ivor Novello's "Keep the Homefires Burning" and many more. Among the female composers, we were introduced to the works of Dame Elizabeth Machoncy and we heard about Jan Struther who created "Mrs Miniver" (later released as a film in 1942)and who also wrote the hymn "Lord of All Hopefulness". We meet again in June when the music/composers will start with the letters 'O', 'P, 'Q' and 'R'.
