2023

On 7th July eleven members enjoyed a beautiful sunny day at The British Ironworks in Shropshire visiting the Sculpture Park which is the largest centre in the UK for decorative metal works.

On 15th April the group attended Carden Park for a tour of the sculptures entitled "The Edge of Nature" by renowned artist, Emma Rodgers. Grant Ford, BBC's Antiques Roadshow expert and Fine Art curator introduced Emma to the audience along with the Sculpture Garden which is set against the stunning backdrop of the luxury resort. Emma was a prize winner at the V&A while still at university and since then has featured in several major international public and private collections including V&A, Saatchi, Art Paris, New York and Lineart, Ghent and Singapore. Her works include the iconic Cilla Black statue in Liverpool; the 11m Hornby Liver Bird as well as being commissioned by Marvel Films for the set of Guardians of the Galaxy. She is classed as one of Britain's leading ceramic sculptors using mediums of clay and bronze, pushing them to the edge of their elasticity to create powerful, challenging, delicate, tender, disturbing and yet ethereally beautiful statuary. Emma carries out a great deal of research of her subjects and creates several drawings before producing her works of art. She gave a talk on all her amazing sculptured pieces and explained her thinking behind them. This exhibition continues for a few more months. Most of the pieces are outside on the front terrace of the hotel and there are a few smaller pieces inside.

On 20th February members visited Sarah Samuels' gallery in Hoole to view her winter exhibition.
On 24th February (a rather wet and blowy day) several members visited Carden Park for a guided tour of the Grant Ford Sculpture Park. Grant Ford is a BBC's Antique Roadshow expert and fine art curator.
On 3rd March the group visited Chester Cathedral to see Gaia by Luke Jerram. This installation is a globe described as measuring 6 metres in diameter with detailed NASA imagery of the Earth's surface, giving visitors the opportunity to see our planet floating in 3-dimensions.
