Orienteering Walking Group
Anyone wanting additional information should contact John on 07721 538057.
Update October 20th 2020
The group resumed its monthly walks programme in July 2020, and has even included some additional walks, to make up for the ones that were lost, during the period of full COVID 19 "lockdown".
The group has improvised somewhat, to ensure it complies with both the law and spirit of government guidance, as well as walks being made as safe as possible for the participants. It has been able to make use of the exemptions allowed for various organised sporting and exercise activities, that allow groups, in excess of six in number, to operate.
Other changes have been made, such as picnicking & buying "take outs" becoming the norm for lunch, during the usually
warmer & dryer months of the year. A higher percentage of more local walks have been included, making use in some
instances of smart phone based maps, given the reduced ability to share private car travel.
Locations already visited or planned for July 2020 to March 2021 include:-
Derbyshire - Poolsbrook Country Park, Staveley
Leicestershire - Burbage Common; Moira Furnace/Donisthorpe; Snibston Country Park; Ratby Woodlands
Nottingham - Wollaton Park
Nottinghamshire - Bramcote Hills; Sherwood Pines; Gedling Country Park; Wollaton Park, Nottingham
Warwickshire - Pooley Country Park & Heritage Centre
The orienteering walk group usually meets on either the 3rd monday or the 4th tuesday - most months of the year. Occasionally there is a departure from the above formula.
More specific information on future walk dates and locations is published in the West Bridgford U3A's Group News Update.
New members, irrespective of prior orienteering experience, are welcome to join the group.
