West Bridgford

Singing for Fun

August 2020, we are obviously not meeting regularly, but I am sending out a daily song to everyone with a bit of chattiness to keep everyone informed of anything happening.
We have had 3 informal singing sessions in WB Park, all very informal and not a U3A condoned activity, just me, inviting friends. Everyone socially distanced and we sing unaccompanied.
So far the weather has been kind.
Sunday 16th August was International Tell a joke day, and here are the offerings from the group.

A man walked into a bar, well he should have looked where he was going.

Two parrots sitting on a perch, one says to the other, ‘do you smell fish’?

A man goes into a travel agents and after much searching booked an action holiday cruise in the Bahamas, which was quite cheap. He had to be in Southampton to get on the ship.
When he arrived, he was horrified to find that he was going in a galley ship and was manacled, like 48 others to the seat in the open deck, given a huge oar and told to start rowing!  After several days of backbreaking work with little food or water, and the lashings of the captain for slowing down, he turned to the man beside him, and said " I wasn't expecting this. I hope they at least fly us back home". To which the man replied " well, they didn't last year".

A joke from Alexa.

Why did the banker leave his job?
Because he lost interest.

Pre Corona virus information available below

The group leader is Sue: Tel 0790 0886765

The group meets in West Bridgford Baptist Church Hall @ 10:15-12 on the 2nd and 4th Friday of EVERY month.

No singing skill whatsoever is required, there are no auditions and no reading of music, except for our excellent pianist Janet.

We sing a variety of songs, ancient, modern, show tunes, funny tunes, any tunes sound wonderful when we all sing together.

Current cost is £1 per session which includes tea or coffee and biscuits

Do come along and join in, we are all inclusive with male and female singers!!
A typical programme can be found by following the link Programme 1 or Programme 12.

Sue also has available song words for each session which are available to anyone, just let her know in advance and she will bring them on the day.

In January 2020 a new era dawned. Our pianist retired after 10 years of sterling work, her input was highly appreciated and we made sure she was thanked properly with gifts and an afternoon tea.
As is the way with all things, we needed to rethink, fortunately a new Janet has volunteered to be our pianist for one session a month and the other session is using YouTube to play the music. The main committee has purchased an excellent speaker which at last carries the sound for the 50+ singers that we get. Sue is enjoying the challenge of finding and organising suitable songs with many suggestions from the group.

Even more reason to come along and enjoy the good fellowship and fun of singing, you really don't know how it will go on the day and neither does Sue!
During the Coronavirus lockdown we are not able to continue with our usual format, however, every day Sue is circulating a song for you all to sing along with.
