German

Our group discusses books which relate to German history in the last century. We also look at the number of English words which have been absorbed into the German language, mainly as a result of the Internet. Some have recently referred to this phenomenon as 'Globish', because of the manner in which our language is modified by non-native speakers of English. Our group leader, who qualified as an interpreter in the language, tells us it has made him 'so aware of what a wonderful language English is and so proud of the way it is now a truly global language'.

All abilities are more than welcome. Even if we do not become fluent in the language,we enjoy the unique contribution which people make to our meetings whilst enjoying a good cup of coffee!
