August 2019 Newsletter
Back to Geology
The Geology group meets in two different ways. It has field trips led by Prof Doug Robinson taking advantage of the abundance of places in the Mendips showing the variety of rocks and soils in the area. These usually take place about once a month. Sometimes we have the additional advantage of professor Chris King when he is free. In addition, we usually have indoor meetings at the Wookey Hole Village Hall on the first Friday afternoon of the month where members as well as our professors give illustrated talks.
Below is a sample of what has been presented and what will so far be taking place:
April 5th | Doug Robinson | Volcanoes | Hawaiian Hotspots |
May 7th | Hilary Little | Volcano La Payunia in Argentina
June 7th | Field trip to the Jurassic coast
August 2nd | Peter Shepherd | Fracking is not necessarily a dirty word; Fossil fuels and the whale"
September 6th | Chris King | Spot the rock: A workshop in simple rock identification
October 4th | David Rowley | Fossils are pretty but they don’t do much do they? |
We have a membership of over 20 and we are pleased we can accept a few more. Click on the pigeon on the group page for more information.
