Wookey February Walk

Wednesday 11th February – Wookey

Walk Leaders: Lynn & Patsy

Description
A 4.0 mile walk at Wookey. Please meet at the Ring O’ Bells in Wookey Village (Address; Ring O’ Bells, High Street, Wookey, BA5 1JZ -Tel: 01749 678079) at 9.15 – ready to leave by 9.30. Facilities will be available in the pub beforehand. Grid Reference for the R.o.Bells is 516 458.

We leave Wookey in the direction of Worth, crossing fields in a westerly direction. We then cross the B3139 between Yarley and Henton. Then it’s a steep uphill climb to the top of Yarley Hill where we will have a coffee break and admire the (hopefully) incredible views. We then partly descend the ridge and join Yarley Field Lane – which can be pretty muddy. We cross back over the ridge and descend towards Worth – re-crossing the B3139 and following the River Axe back into Wookey.

There are quite a lot of stiles on this walk so it will be a good workout to negate the over indulgences of the Christmas season. Of these stiles 2 are not dog friendly so the dog will need a lift. There are a few muddy sections and if has rained a lot these will have expanded. Yarley Field Lane always seems to be muddy. Sticks will be useful.

Parking is very limited at the pub as there is no car park. There is on street parking in the village and there always seem to be spaces along by St Matthews Church.

Report
Having gathered in Wookey on a bright sunny morning we all set off with a happy heart. The air was crisp, some of the fields were water logged, and with the addition of amazing views in such a clear day. We happily tested our skills for stepping over the many stiles we encountered some even double to add to our joy! Did we count 23 in all, or perhaps it did appear as that many. A very enjoyable spring walk led by Lynn .
