Thursday 17th January – Ditcheat
Walk Leaders: Nicky & Jan
A 4.5 mile on Thursday 17th January 2019. There are no hills and no stiles! The walk will commence from The Manor House Inn, Ditcheat, Post code BA4 6RB (Grid Ref 627 362 OS Explorer Map 142. Tel: 01749 860 276) at 10.00 am. The car park at the pub is small, but it is possible to park in the road, so car sharing as much as possible will be good. Toilet facilities will be available.
This is a circular walk starting in a southerly direction to Alhampton and then on to Sutton and back northwards to Ditcheat. The route is along footpaths and quiet lanes, through a young woodland and across some fields. One footpath has stone slabs which can be very slippery if damp, so extra care will be required on this path.
What a lovely day for a walk, with skies of cerulean blue,
When twenty-three walkers met -- at a pub as we usually do!
The pub in Ditcheat village has race-horse stables nearby;
Before we set off, an equine show when a string of forty passed by.
Four and a half flat miles with nary a stile around;
Just kissing gates, newly-planted trees* and a little muddy ground.
En route we passed by Barbers [oldest makers of Cheddar cheese]
And the rare little Tin Tabernacle, restored for all to please.
Onward and back to the Manor House Inn, for lunch and a well-earned rest,
Thank you Nicky and Jan -- for a walk that was one of the best.
