Our reading over past months has varied widely between classic authors – Winifred Holtby’s Land of Green Ginger, Doris Lessing’s Golden Notebook and Anthony Trollope’s The Warden – more modern authors like Edna O’Brien’s Country Girls and Jane Gardam’s Old Filth – and an autobiographical work from Alan Johnson entitled This Boy. Some remain more memorable than others, some entice us to read other titles by the same author, but all have provoked lively discussion!
The local library is encouraging people to read books from each decade between 1920 and 2010 by issuing a passport to be stamped. When full, it can participate in a draw to win a suitcase full of books! We are intrigued by the idea and are working out how to do this as a group or whether to do it individually.
Our group is alive and well and full!
