Axbridge Social Walk

Wednesday 3rd August – Axbridge Social Walk

Walk Leaders: Patsy & Nicky

We meet at the Cheddar Reservoir car park for 11 am start. The walk is just over 2 miles. From the car park we head North back to the road and East to pick up the former Strawberry line railway track which has been renovated to form a cycle and walking pathway. Heading south in a clockwise direction we walk along tree lined lanes and paths below the reservoir. There are many resting points along here if you should need. We cross onto the playing fields and walk past the skate park to the road, which leads us up to the reservoir.

We then walk along the reservoir edge in an anti-clockwise direction beside the water, where we saw a great deal of bird life. For this sector wind proofs may be advisable as it is very exposed to the elements, but on a hot summer day is very pleasant. We pass the Yacht club and return to our cars.

Report

The social walk was very well supported with 26 of us setting off in 2 groups to negotiate the road at the start. We then all met up to walk along the Strawberry Way towards the reservoir. Water levels were very low but there were plenty of birds on the water including an egret.

It was good to see old friends and we welcomed two new members. It was drizzly at the start of the walk but soon brightened up.

Returning to the cars most of us decided to walk across the fields to Axbridge and the conversations continued.

We had an excellent lunch and then made our way back to the reservoir car park.

Thank you, Patsy and Nicky, for arranging such an enjoyable social event.
