Evercreech and Spargrove

Wednesday 6th July - Evercreech

Walk Leader: Nicky and Lucy

Description
Meet at The Bell Inn Evercreech at 9.30 for 9.45 start. The route is across fields to Stoney Stratton and then we walk beside the stream in a southerly direction heading to Spargrove. From Spargrove we take the footpath again across fields to Manor Farm at Milton Clevedon heading West before turning back up to Everecreech. This is just under 5 miles. There are 7 stiles. The route is nearly all across fields and there are cattle in many. Just a short distance along lanes.

We last did this walk in March 2011.

Report
12 of us set off from the Bell Inn in Evercreech in good warm weather with sunny spells. We walked out of the village passing some lovely little cottages and over some fields, enjoying the lovely fresh air and rolling Somerset countryside. After quite a few fields and a farm, we found ourselves in Milton Clevedon a hamlet I confess I’d never heard of. Again lovely little cottages lined our route. We stopped at the little church of St James for our coffee break. We then came into another little hamlet of Spargrove, where we were kindly invited to look around the outside of Spargrove Manor, which was fascinating. We then crossed the River Alham and made our way back to Evercreech passing through Stoney Stratton on the way.

The Bell at Evercreech was a welcome sight and we ate well and had a nice social lunch. Many thanks to Nicky and Lucy for such an interesting walk.
